10 Upcoming Video Games Which Are Already Doomed

7. Star Citizen

Cloud Imperium Games

What can even be said about Star Citizen at this point? The mega-ambitious space trading and combat sim was announced back in September 2012, and as of this past May has amassed an eye-watering $700 million in crowdfunding.

For context, that's over $250 million more than the budget for the most expensive movie of all time, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

And yet, despite originally being set for a 2014 release, Star Citizen still isn't out 12 years later, with journalists and fans alike criticising its evidently poor management, while others have even dared to call it a "scam."

The point, however, is that Star Citizen will surely never be able to live up to such astronomical levels of hype, due to both the absurd production timeline and utterly absurd budget Cloud Imperium Games is working with.

Star Citizen will (probably) come out one day, but considering how far gaming has moved on since 2012 and how destructive scope creep can be to games development, it seems highly likely that it'll leave the great many incredibly underwhelmed.
