10 Upcoming Video Games Which Are Already Doomed
4. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Remake
Though there's no denying that a remake of legendary RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a massive undertaking, in the very least the bones of the acclaimed original experience are there to work from.
Short of the game being developed as a massive Final Fantasy VII Remake-esque re-imagining, it should've been possible for a competent, well-managed AAA studio to deliver the remake within a few years.
The KOTOR remake was first announced in September 2021, and while three years is by no means a concerning amount of time for the game to be in development, the fact we haven't seen a single glimpse of gameplay since said announcement certainly is.
Moreover, there have been numerous reports on the game's strained development, with original developer Aspyr firing several prominent team members, after which Aspyr were replaced by Saber Interactive.
As such, it wasn't hugely surprising when insider Jeff Grubb claimed that the remake was effectively "dead" late last year, and to add more fuel to the fire, Saber's parent company Embracer sold them off in March.
The KOTOR remake is apparently still continuing development, but with so many hurdles in its path, it sure isn't looking likely that it turns out well - if it even turns out at all.
