Compared to remaking Knights of the Old Republic, a new version of platforming classic Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time should be a damn walk in the park. And yet, four years after it was first announced, we've still got a while to wait.

It didn't help that the initial reveal trailer was torn asunder by fans who felt that the remake's visuals were severely below par, which Ubisoft misguidedly attempted to defend as an artistic choice.

The online negativity ultimately prompted the publisher to delay the game from its intended January 2021 release to an unspecified date, and by the next year, development had reportedly been restarted from scratch at Ubisoft Montreal.

The remake was finally re-announced at a Ubisoft Forward event this past June, with a teaser that featured no gameplay footage whatsoever and promised a 2026 release date.

That a seemingly straightforward remake of a 10-hour action-adventure game is taking six years to develop is shocking, honestly, and makes it tough to have much faith in the end product.
