7. Rose - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty

Resident Evil 5 Sheva
Konami

In the main Tanker-set portion of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, the player's primary support character is Rose, Raiden's girlfriend who you must call in order to save your progress throughout the game.

That's all well and good, except contacting Rose will too often result in her wanting to talk about her and Raiden's relationship, or asking Raiden if he remembers what day it is tomorrow (hint: it's the date they first met).

Clearly the pair have a lot going on, but Rose constantly interrupting the mission and general flow of the game to discuss their romantic life makes her supremely irritating to deal with.

Given that the save characters in the Metal Gear Solid franchise are typically fun and interesting, Rose is a bland bore by comparison, saddling both Raiden and the player with a ton of gooey melodramatic baggage that's not really worth the eventual emotional payoff.

Reportedly the character of Rose was based on Hideo Kojima's own life - namely an incident where he forgot the date that he met his wife - and so, in the interest of sharing, he decided to inflict that experience upon his legion of fans too.
