10 Useful Video Game Companions That SUCKED To Hang Out With

5. The Squid Sisters - Splatoon

Resident Evil 5 Sheva
Nintendo

The original Splatoon was a hugely innovative multiplayer game from Nintendo, but before loading the game up each time, players would be administered a news report-style announcement from the Squid Sisters, who would inform them of game updates and map rotations.

While this was useful in the sense that it kept the player informed of new Splatoon developments, Nintendo also made the siblings immediately infuriating because there was no way for players to skip these announcements.

Sometimes you just want to whizz past the bloat and dive straight into a game, but in yet another instance of Nintendo making a bafflingly archaic decision, they forced players to sit through this prattle for minutes before starting the game proper.

Nintendo at least listened to the vocal feedback for the sequels, with Splatoon 2 significantly reducing the number of announcements, before Splatoon 3 finally allowed players to skip the majority of them outright.

Even so, way to take two otherwise cool and appealing-looking characters and make them emblems of the game's very worst design choice.
