Signs in the Witcher 3 are no joke. A fully upgraded Aard of Igni can take down multiple enemies at once, or even make the toughest of boss fights an absolute breeze.

The thing is, you don't need every skill related to a sign in order to make the most of it. In fact, when it comes to the fire Sign, Igni, there is a certain upgrade that actually ends up being more of a hindrance than a help.

Firestream is a special alternative mode of Igni that allows the player to sustain the sign's flames and damage their enemies over time. In theory, a full ray of Firestream should be able to deal more damage than a regular short burst, but in practice, that's not the case.

Enemies in combat rarely leave you be for more than a second, meaning your sustained Firestream is likely to get interrupted as soon as you cast it.

Meanwhile, regular Igni can be used in a heartbeat, taking down both the health and the armor of enemies without worrying about interruptions. And you don't have to expend a skill slot to use it, either!
