Awakening in the middle of picturesque woods as a young girl named Viola, players soon stumble across an idyllic home. Upon entering, however, the game's beautiful retro art style turns into an utterly insane nightmare as players are tasked with solving puzzles to find a means to escape the clutches of the titular witch.

Catching players off guard at every possible opportunity, expect to die even more than a typical Dark Souls playthrough here. Stand on a patch of blood in the first room or avoid a knife hurtling towards you and you can expect to be greeted by a swift Game Over.

One of the best things about this game is that you never know what to expect next, especially when it involves being attacked by a giant teddy bear. This game revels in subverting conventional puzzle game expectations, and they will get you every time.

In addition to its strange atmosphere, The Witch's House is busting with plenty of jump-scares. Thanks to the game's short length and creativity, though, these otherwise cheap scare tactics never feel unearned.

Recently getting an updated release with fancy new visuals, visiting this house is all the more worthwhile.
