10 Video Game 100% Completions That Were Profoundly Insulting
8. Gex 3DO
The 1990s saw a myriad of video game companies racing against one another for brand supremacy. Unfortunately, this resulted in a largely-oversaturated market, relegating many of these characters to "cult favorite" status, at best.
And one of the more well-known of the lesser-known is Gex, a platforming gecko who speaks almost entirely in pop culture references.
Gex debuted in 1995 on the 3DO console. Though the 3DO did not do well commercially, Gex's self-titled game received a fair amount of praise for its visuals, its mechanics, and especially the performance of Gex's voice actor, Dana Gould. Gould recorded an incredible number of zingers to keep the player invested as they made their way through each of the game's worlds.
However, upon completing the game, instead of allowing Gould to riff endlessly about celebrities or whatever, the developers opted instead to have 8.5 uninterrupted minutes of "jokes" crawl incredibly slowly across the screen over nauseatingly-green television static and repetitive, annoying music. Worse, yet, is that the "jokes" are basically just the game insulting you for playing it.
Perhaps Gex would've had a much greater legacy had he not used his platform to make those who enjoyed his game feel stupid for doing so.
