8. Darth Vader - The Force Unleashed

Look, I know it seems obvious that you probably shouldn't put your faith in frickin' Darth Vader of all people - especially when he stabs your character Starkiller through the chest at a moment's notice just to hide his own cover - but his plan to use his new secret apprentice to overthrow the Emperor in The Force Unleashed does initially seem watertight.

Unfortunately, it turns out that Starkiller's purpose was never to overthrow old Palpatine at all, but rather expose his enemies and wipe out any potential for a fully-formed resistance actually posing a threat in the future.

The plan was a bit of a mess in all honesty though, as it actually indirectly birthed the beginning of the resistance rather than stopping it completely. The Sith's arrogance was his downfall once again.
