Of the many cooperative shooters that now line gaming shelves, Army of Two was one of the first, putting players in the shoes of Tyson Rios and Elliot Salem back in the early days of the seventh generation. While it professed to deliver an unparalleled coop experience, the end result was met with mostly lukewarm critical reception.

The series ended up getting three main entries which all settled into the AA space. As the former PMC operatives turned mercenaries tackle threats for the highest bidder, players were treated to a relatively standard third-person shooter. Arguably the most well-received was Army Of Two: The 40th Day, which saw Salem turn on his former partner.

Elliot ended up going insane after Tyson abandoned him in combat to save a hostage. Thus, he becomes a main antagonist later on in Army Of Two: The Devil's Cartel. In one of the game's many disappointing elements, no boss fight with Salem is offered as the player is instead asked to slog their way through his foot soldiers instead.

With Salem wounded in a flaming wreckage, he ends up being hauled off by Mexico's special forces instead, a very anticlimactic end to both The Devil's Cartel and the series as a whole.
