10 Video Game Bosses Defeated By A Cutscene
2. Chairman Drek - Ratchet & Clank (2016)
Across three console generations now, the Ratchet and Clank franchise has been a constant presence on Sony hardware, delivering some fun and frenetic shifts between platforming and shooting.
In the original game, the duo went head-to-head with Chairman Drek, the corrupt leader of the Blarg who sought to construct a new settlement from the pieces of other planets. The final battle unfolded, very fittingly, on Ratchet's home planet Veldin. Some fourteen years later, the original game in the series got an updated facelift for the PlayStation 4.
For the 2016 remake of Ratchet and Clank, many changes were made to both the levels and story. The player finds themselves heading through different locations placed against a story that opts for a more kid-friendly take on the original title.
While he appears to be the primary antagonist, Drek is unceremoniously written out of the story when Dr. Nefarious turns him into a sheep and shoots him out the airlock. While this twist may have landed well enough with younger audiences, long-term fans had mixed reactions to the story. Abruptly swapping to fan favourite villain Dr Nefarious robbed the game of a potential boss fight, leading players to a more rushed final encounter.
