10 Video Game Bosses Genuinely IMPOSSIBLE Without A Guide

8. Shadow Rise And Shadow Teddy - Persona 4

Atlus

Atlus prides themselves on making the kinds of boss fights that dig their heels into the back of your head as it drives you into the dirt and makes you thank it for the honor. We'll further explore just how punishing their games can be later on, but for now let's look at the double whammy that vexed Persona players for years.

Because they both happen back to back from each other, one directly leading into the next, and both inhabit the same dungeon, we're counting them as one continuous boss fight. Taking a page out of Dragon Quest's book, this is the kind of boss where you really have to know it has multiple phases. Otherwise you're likely to use up all your SP and items on Shadow Rise, a forced loss scenario seemingly put in JUST to drain your resources so that Shadow Teddy can clean your clocks more effectively.

While the boss fights by themselves aren't any easier or harder than the others in Persona 4 - any devastating moves they have are clearly telegraphed and can just be blocked - the fact that they're put together with no indication to new players that this was how it was gonna play out makes the end to this dungeon infuriating.

Especially because losing makes you do both all over again. Yay.
