10 Video Game Bosses Genuinely IMPOSSIBLE Without A Guide

6. Yunalesca - Final Fantasy X

A long standing tradition in Final Fantasy games is the secret final boss. Not the final boss of the story, but rather the game's final, ultimate challenge for the player to see just how skilled they truly are. And by far one of the hardest out there is Final Fantasy X's Yunalesca.

While bosses like Ozma are WAY harder, they're also a lot harder to get to than Yunalesca, requiring far more hoops to jump through to even give it a go. So if you've reached Ozma, chances are good that you're more than ready for it. And while there are more than enough warnings that the game gives you that fighting Yunalesca unless you're ready will result in you getting charbroiled, those warnings still don't quite prepare you for the slobber-knocker you're in for.

Beating this boss is all about attrition, knowing which party members to have out at what time, and how to account for her different forms healing her and removing all status effects you put on her in the last phase. Something you're unlikely to figure out on your own unless you either play through this fight (and its unskippable cutscenes) so many times that you have it memorized, or - more realistically - if you have a guide telling you what to do. And even that might not help because of the way the leveling system in this game is built, you likely have a VERY different build for your party than the ones the community-created strategies had, and at this point in the game, there's no fixing that.
