3. Metroid Queen - Metroid: Other M
Your fight with the Metroid Queen in Other M is, for all the game's various flaws, pretty damn decent. It also gives us a full 3D model of the Queen herself, which is suitably, gloriously, menacing.
After a fairly standard first phase of the fight, it will appear like you've killed the monster, only for her to get back up totally fine. Aware this is her last shot at defeating her enemy, you then goes against Samus' previous orders, which banned her from using her suit's Morph Ball Mode, in order to barrel into the Metroid Queen's stomach. From here, you basically tear the Queen apart from the inside, which kills her so hard that the monster explodes.
This fight is incredibly infuriating if you don't realise you can use said ability again, though, because the game... doesn't opt to actually tell you this, for whatever reason.
But, for the reward of an exploding alien dragon momma, a bit of a mystery is a fair exchange. Now if only the rest of the game has been as interesting...
