When it comes to controller-breaking levels of difficulty, it doesn’t come much more infuriating than the Ghosts ‘N Goblins series. A 2D platformer littered with respawning enemies, storms of projectiles and cruel traps, the original NES game’s notorious difficulty has since become legendary, with the rest of the series continuing to revel in this sadistic challenge.

The latest of which was 2021’s Resurrection. Although Capcom introduced different difficulty modes to make the title more approachable, this game can still be masochistically brutal to whoever dares try.

The pinnacle of Capcom’s cruelty came in the form of the game’s secret boss: Hades.

To unlock the true ending of the game and face Hades, players will first need to beat every level of the game (including their shadow variations), alongside finding and completing every hidden area. Getting to this boss is already a mighty undertaking but it’s nothing compared to the fight itself.

Players will need to constantly dodge the boss’s constant barrage of laser projectiles and lightning bolts while they chip away at his health. Making things even tougher, this boss tilts the small platform and even spits black holes.

With only a few hits until it's game over, beating Hades requires unwavering nerves of steel.
