3. Emerald Weapon - Final Fantasy VII

In fairness, you need to be a special kind of masochist to even attempt battling Final Fantasy VII's Emerald Weapon, given that it's an entirely optional secret boss you're not in any way obliged to suffer through.

The boss is a level 99 enemy with a staggering 1,000,000 HP, and unless you're lucky enough to have the Underwater Materia equipped, you'll be stuck with a brutal 20-minute time limit, which you will fail many, many times.

Without the ticking clock, though, the fight is still an epically long war of attrition, as you try to withstand Emerald's HP-annihilating attacks long enough to whittle its health down to zero.

Granted, fans knew what they were getting into when they threw down against this "superboss", and if you were hardcore enough to even consider taking it on, you probably weren't beyond sacrificing 10 hours of your life trying to defeat it.
