10 Video Game Bosses Who Didn't Even Try

1. Negative Man - Mother 3

Trust a game as aggressively off-kilter as Mother 3 to serve up one of the most wonderfully bizarre and unexpected boss fights of all-time against the aptly-monikered Negative Man.

Negative Man can only be encountered in a cave in Argilla Pass and basically resembles a yellow, anthropomorphic sponge - albeit with a severe case of depression, that is.

Despite the epic music accompanying the "fight," it amounts to effectively beating the snot out of an extremely upset living thing that makes little-to-no effort to fight back, as he can only deal 1 HP of damage per attack.

Instead, he largely just sobs on the floor while saying things like, "I'm nothing but a worthless protoplasm" and "There's just no way I can win."

Near the end of the fight, you're informed that Negative Man isn't only sobbing but also moaning and wailing, as if to ensure you feel sufficiently guilty for murdering this poor thing who wasn't being a problem for anybody.

As the icing on an obviously parodical cake, once you've defeated Negative Man you're informed that he's now "become tame," as though he wasn't already.
