10 Video Game Character Redesigns The Fans Actually Liked
7. Yoshimitsu
Yoshimitsu is just a weird dude.
He comes with a different look every game, although most changes don’t really get much traction; he’s a hard character to master, is never too involved with the core story and the changes aren’t immediately noticeable. For these reasons, Tekken can pretty much get away with whatever they want and nobody will call foul.
Technically, Yoshimitsu is a title for the leader of the alien Manji Clan, so it is actually a completely different character each time. Usually though, it’s pretty consistent and he’s featured in every Tekken game to date, so a drastic new look definitely counts as a redesign.
Speaking of which, in Tekken 7, they went above and beyond. Gone were the sleek, domed curves his designs had previously shared; now, for some reason, he was a crazy squid monster.
Despite being a massive departure from previous Yoshimitsus, the look received massive praise for going all in on the weirdness. Considering another character has chainsaws for arms, outer space squid men shouldn’t be a cause for alarm.
Though this squid man is a different Yoshimitsu to the one we saw in Tekken 6, he looks so bizarre that he needs to be catalogued here.
