Edgar Ross is one of the biggest douchebags in recent gaming memory, the director of what would eventually become the FBI, and forces protagonist John Marston to work for him in order that he might be reunited with his family upon killing outlaw Bill Williamson. Marston succeeds, but Ross reneges on his deal and has more work he needs Marston to do, namely taking care of his old buddy Dutch van der Linde, which again, Marston uneasily does. Despite freeing Marston's wife and son, Ross eventually decides that any link to Dutch needs to be wiped out, and so sends a gang of US Marshalls to assassinate the Marston family. John manages to send his family away just in time, but after an intense shootout, he is brutally shot to death. This would be a severe but inevitable downer on which to end Red Dead Redemption, but Rockstar doesn't stop there. We then get to play as John's son Jack during the brief epilogue, allowing us to track a retired Ross down three years later and assassinate him in a duel. Given how likeable Jack's father was, the satisfaction felt when pumping Ross full of lead is rivaled by few other kills I've scored in a video game. It was truly a cathartic experience.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
