2. Red (Transistor)
When thinking about games with an amazing soundtrack, Transistor is certainly one which comes to mind.
With a great post-rock mix, playing this game is an absolute joy as you can regularly hear Red humming along to the tunes. The only word she speaks regularly in the entire game is ‘hey’, though we do get to hear her sing.
The loss of Red’s voice is a key plot point of the game, and often with games the soundtrack is just a backing feature though here it plays more of a front-stage role.
Trapped inside the Transister is Red’s voice, and the song ‘We All Become’ showcases her amazing amount of talent. It might not necessarily be ‘bursting into song’ but I’m damned if I’m not counting it. This song was so unexpected – not that I didn’t expect to hear Red’s voice, but instead that I didn’t expect it to be so incredibly good.
