When Resi fans got to see the first footage for Resident Evil: Village, there was one thing they couldn't stop talking about, and that was a 9-foot-tall vampire with an impeccable fashion taste called Alcina Dimitrescu.

A towering and domineering figure, the mysterious character took the internet by storm as eager fans excitedly speculated about who she was and how she'd fit into the game's plot. The marketing seemed to be setting her up as a primary antagonist, and a small demo likewise saw her take centre stage while giving players a brief taste of what was to come.

And then players got their hands on the game and could finally make their way into Castle Dimitrescu for themselves. The castle was atmospheric and foreboding, with the sound of Alcina's patrolling footsteps being a sign that it was time to move - and fast.

This imposing presence was a large part of what made the first chunk of Village so enticing. However, after only a brief time in the castle, players would vanquish Alcina in an unexpected boss fight.

Though what followed was still excellent Resi fun, players were nevertheless robbed of Village's greatest asset far too soon.
