10 Video Game Characters Who Deserved Better

2. Solaire Of Astora - Dark Souls

resident evil 8
Bandai Namco Entertainment

Nobody is having a fun time in the dying world of Lordran in the notoriously difficult Dark Souls. But nobody has a worse time of things than Solaire of Astora

First encountered in the Undead Burg after defeating the Taurus Demon, Solaire of Astora stands valiantly, looking out towards the sun that bathes him in a grossly incandescent light. He's an undead warrior who has set out to complete his quest to find his "very own sun", whatever that means.

Solaire is the first glimmer of hope that something good can exist in this decaying world. Moreover, players can summon him for assistance in some of the game's trickiest boss fights. In short, Solaire is the best.

But when players encounter him later down the line, his once optimistic spark has faded as he wonders if his quest has been completely hopeless.

If players are unable to complete a specific set of obscure actions by his next encounter, however, they'll have to fight him after he becomes Hollowed, corrupted by a sunlight Maggot. It is possible to save him, though it's unlikely that first-time players will know how.

It's an undeserved end for the one ray of light in Dark Souls' bleak world.
