10 Video Game Cliffhangers That Went NOWHERE

5. Alice: Madness Returns (2011)

Whoever thought there would be a Gothic-style action adventure game based on Alice in Wonderland? Aren't video games weird? Still, like the other literary game on this list, Alice: Madness Returns teased a sequel that seems increasingly less likely to happen with each passing day.

After venturing through a ravaged Wonderland, Alice finally returned to London, having defeated the game's dastardly villain. However, as she ventured out of the tube station where their showdown took place, she found that Wonderland and London were bleeding into each other.

The game ends with Alice walking through this new and bizarre Londerland, ready to accept her past and begin a new life. But, as she does so, the beloved Cheshire Cat delivers an ominous warning claiming that Wonderland is safe, but only "for now."

This open-ended conclusion wonderfully sets up a third game, which American McGee (the game's creator) has been venturing to make for a while now. Sadly, Alice: Asylum, the proposed third game, has been in development Hell for so long that it's about as hopeless as someone begging for mercy from the Queen of Hearts.
