10 Video Game Deaths You Couldn't Avoid
5. The Lich King - Hearthstone
Creating a card game battle you can't win is an especially cruel trick to play, because - since card games are based heavily on luck of the draw - you can often think you've just gotten really, really unlucky, instead of seeing the hints that this is one boss you just can't beat.
If you aren't aware of its nature as an unwinnable fight, the first prologue battle against the Lich King in Heartstone is basically the embodiment of this. You know countless players went through it getting more and more frustrated, as your deck is full of cards with a cost too high to use, while your enemies is full of overpowered cards that fill his side with monsters to attack you.
Despite the fact that it appears you only need to survive three rounds to win and be rescued by backup, the fight is set up so you die just before help arrives, as Arthas' deck is simply too powerful.
You won't feel bad about it for long, though, as the Lich King will then resummon you as an undead warrior, allowing you to see a little of the Death Knight abilities that you can have after using certain legendary cards in your regular games.
