10 Video Game DLCs That Went Off The Rails
8. The Sims 3: World Adventures
The expansion packs for Sims games have always been chock-full of weird things, like genie lamps, robotic servants, and vampires, but one expansion pack in particular stands out, as it didn't just add the crazy into the game-it changed the way in which the game was played.
During the release of Sims 3, the series was at the peak of its popularity. The fans were eagerly anticipating the game's first expansion pack, World Adventures, but they had no idea what they were getting into.
Instead of being another DLC which offered their sims a way to spend some time abroad like its counterparts from Sims 1 and 2, World Adventures turned Sims 3 into an Indiana Jones simulator. The Sims were able to travel to Egypt, China, and France to raid tombs, fight mummies, and uncover ancient secrets of each location they visited.
Every map had a series of adventures the sims could go on, complete with stories, puzzles, and unique loot with different functionalities.
The change was so radical from the typical building and management gameplay of the Sims that it split the fanbase in two. Still, it had to be pretty popular, as the next expansion pack also inlcuded missions.
