10 Video Game DLCs That Went Off The Rails
4. Crusader Kings II: Sunset Invasion
Have you ever wondered what would happen if the Aztecs and the Spanish switched roles? Well, in that case, look no further than Crusader Kings DLC, The Sunset Invasion!
Crusaders Kings II is a historical grand strategy game, but it doesn't shy away from spicing up its gameplay with supernatural events and all kinds of wacky easter eggs. This said, none of these events come even remotely close to the scenario provided by Sunset Invasion.
The DLC introduces a special in-game crisis, in which the Aztec Empire arrives in Europe way before Columbus's voyage to America and begins to conquer the Old World, province by province.
The DLC comes with a variety of special events made for the player's encounters with the Western invaders; special portraits and clothing inspired by the Aztec culture; and a new religion, which allows you to sacrifice your enemies on an altar, Apocalypto style.
The scenario is a wonderful choice for players who value some silly fun over historical accuracy, and it's surprisingly good at changing the power balance of all the countries in the game. If you thought Eastern Europe had it hard with Mongolians, wait until you see the Aztec ships hitting Iberian shores...
