10 Video Game Easter Eggs That Went Too Far

3. Mocking Superior Games - Duke Nukem Forever

There are some games that aren't just bad, they're infamous. Daikatana. E.T - The Extra-Terrestrial. Marvel's Avengers. And, of course, Duke Nukem Forever. Due to its nightmarish development, nobody expected much from this long-awaited sequel.

But we didn't expect it to suck this badly! Due to its uninspired level design, generic combat mechanics, and buggy gameplay, Duke Nukem Forever was lambasted by the entire gaming community.

What made it worst is when the game tries to be edgy. As Duke begins his mission, the EDF soldier offers him an armoured suit, which is obviously based on Master Chief's uniform in Halo. Our hyper-masculine hero rejects the soldier's offer, saying armour is for wimps. (He uses a more colourful insult than that.) During another mission, Duke comes across a marine that's blatantly modelled on Isaac Clarke from Dead Space.

Now, these references would be funny...if Duke Nukem Forever wasn't hot garbage. When Duke makes obnoxious references about rival games, you can't help but think, "Why aren't I playing those games instead?" If an IP wanted to make a sneaky jab at its rivals, it should make sure it's not mocking games that are way, way, way better.
