Whilst battling incredible foes for the sake of reviving a dead loved one may sound like a great plan in theory, in practice every action has its consequences. For Wander, this becomes clear after slaying these magnificent creatures, most of which have no initial interest in attacking him.

Rather than focusing solely on action, the game forces the player to exploit the weaknesses of the Colossi to damage them. It makes both Wander and the player responsible for their decisions and carry the weight of them throughout their journey.

Wander begins his quest, despite being warned by Dormin (the entity which claims it may be able to revive Mono) that he may still have a great price to pay. Killing the Colossi may not be enough. After sacrificing the Colossi, losing his loyal horse, and becoming increasingly corrupted, Wander is eventually stabbed by warriors and then possessed by Dormin.

It is after this that Mono awakens and finds a horned baby in the pool Dormin and Wander had been pulled into during the previous confrontation. Wander technically succeeds in his endeavours but is not able to explain them to Mono or interact with her in the ways he could before this transformation.
