10 Video Game Endings Worse Than A Game Over

8. Everyone Dies (Or You Die) - Persona 3

While Persona 3 does technically have a good ending and a bad ending, it's unique in one sense: both endings have your character die. Which is kind of a bummer, really, since you'll have logged a fair number of hours into playing the kid, and have formed a pretty strong attachment to the precious weirdo.

Admittedly, the bad ending is significantly darker. In it, you kill Ryoji, erasing all the characters' memories of the incoming apocalyptic Fall - allowing them to have a couple carefree days before the world ends.

But the good ending isn't totally better. Here you allow Ryoji to live, and keep all your memories of the impending onslaught by the evil Nyx. You fight Ryoji as Nyx's avatar, only for the protagonist to manage the seal the great evil away.

However, you never get to summon a great evil away for free, and your brave hero dies a month and a day after this encounter, waiting until all your friends graduate before finally passing.

While Persona 4 suggests that the blue-haired kid wonder can be saved, we've yet to see anything come of this. Hopefully we will soon, though, because otherwise it's a fairly tragic "good" ending.
