10 Video Game Endings You Weren't Supposed To See

3. Axel's Robot Legs - Twisted Metal: Small Brawl

Tomb Raider Underworld
Incognito Entertainment

In Twisted Metal: Small Brawl, Axel is a bonus unlockable character, though this wasn't the original plan.

Initially, he was intended to be part of the main roster and even had his own ending cinematic, but due to Sony finding said ending "problematic," they insisted that developer Incognito Entertainment remove the ending and turn Axel into a secret character instead.

While the ending was thought lost to time for years, it did eventually surface on the website of Argonaut CG Films, the studio which produced it.

The ending shows the wheelchair-clad Axel approaching Calypso to help him walk, at which point Calypso fits him with a pair of nifty robot legs.

However, when Axel asks how he operates the legs, Calypso reveals that he will, at which point he pulls out a remote control and starts "piloting" Axel around the yard, forcing him to walk into a series of garden rakes strewn throughout the area.

According to the game's lead designer and artist Dave Goodrich, Sony found Calypso's abuse of Axel overly mean-spirited, and honestly, they're not wrong. Still, it's an interesting curio all the same.
