Gamers are more than used to hearing the words 'Bethesda' and 'remaster' put together, as their iconic The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been through this treatment so many times that you'd think it'd have a loyalty card. Still, the sudden reveal of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered blew everyone's minds, especially when booting it up and seeing how damn faithful it was.

It was clear that Bethesda understood what fans wanted, delivering an authentic Oblivion experience with a gorgeous graphical update. However, they also listened to the multitude of fans who complained about the original game's levelling system, as it was all but scrapped for the remaster (as per MeriStation).

The old-school levelling of Oblivion (2006) was a needlessly complicated feature that saw you only levelling up your character if you increased your major skills ten times, with your attribute points also varying based on your chosen skills. It also suffered from level scaling issues and more. As such, it became an infamous part of the game.

This remaster, however, said "No thank you" to that system, providing a simplified version that granted character XP on all skill increases, a set of 12 attribute points to distribute as you wanted, and more. The fan discourse was clear and thus rectified.
