2. Wyll's Original Personality (Baldur's Gate 3)

Well, well, Wyll.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a game that prides itself on its compelling companion NPCs. Karlach, Astarion, Shadowheart, Lae'zel, and more are all massively well-written and beloved. That said, one of the main companions, the Warlock Wyll, was so maligned by early access players that Larian Studios decided to delete his whole personality and give him a do-over.

This Baldurian warrior was, in the earlier version of the game, a morally complex character, harbouring a deep-seated hatred of Goblins, a pricklier personality, and even a penchant for torture. However, his attitude and actions didn't sit well with fans, who fed their dislike of him back to the developers (reported by Game Rant).

In response, the developers removed his old personality and introduced something kinder and less combative, with his change in voice actor (Lanre Malalou to Theo Solomon due to scheduling conflicts) contributing to this change.

Sadly for the Blade of Frontiers, his new personality also landed flat with players. The lack of conflict and grit he brought to the table left many feeling that he was bland and underdeveloped. He's almost always on the lower rung of BG3 companion popularity polls. But, hey, it was worth a shot, right? They can't all be winners.
