10 Video Game Final Bosses Who Refused To Die

8. William Birkin - Resident Evil 2

The Resident Evil series has a great many monsters who refuse to play dead, so much so that the characters have long been pointing it out. In fact, they mention that nothing stays dead so much it feels as though that joke has become something that refuses to die but I digress.

None of these are more important than William Birkin though, who is the centrepiece of Resident Evil 2 by being the super genius who creates and then becomes infected with the G-virus. The virus itself seeks out viable tissue for infection to continue its spread.

Birkin, in both the 1998 original and 2019 remake, is the most recurring fight in the game and Claire and Leon face him in several different forms. At first he wields a lead pipe and is almost identifiably human but by the end of it the man is gone and only the need to procreate remains.

You'd think taking down the dog-like monstrosity form with a million eyeballs that William has become and getting the last train out of town would be the last of it. However, in the true ending of the game, we are reminded that Birkin just doesn’t know when to quit.

Now little more than a shapeless mass, it takes the entire lab exploding to put an end to this unstoppable foe.
