10 Video Game Final Bosses Who Refused To Die

3. Abyss - Marvel Vs Capcom 2

When it comes to bosses who will go through several form changes as you slowly beat them down into oblivion, it tends to be a staple for RPGs more than any other genre. It does not, for the most part, tend to be a concerning factor in fighting games. Marvel vs Capcom 2 is a bold exception to this.

And to a certain degree it makes sense, as the Capcom developed Marvel fighting games all use a tag team system where you select multiple fighters to take into battle with you and you can swap between. In lieu of this, the game’s end-boss Abyss goes through three phases to stack up to your three chosen heroes.

Morphing from robotic power suit to goopy green man to a quadrupedal nightmare that takes up the screen; Abyss’ fight is winding and requires you to think carefully about your team’s weaknesses and advantages. More than anything, it’s just long.

Now, five minutes might not sound like much but for a fighting game? Most bouts are over in 60 seconds. Five minutes is a long time to hold your breath and clench that controller tight.

Especially when you get to that final form because it’s so big there’s no getting away from it, so let’s hope you keep those health bars nice and topped up before you make it to this point.
