10 Video Game Franchises Dying For A Comeback

7. The Suffering

The Suffering, despite two well received and profitable titles, died through no fault of its own after the collapse of its publisher, Midway Games. Horror is having a good moment just now and The Suffering is a stellar horror franchise that deserves another swing.

Both The Suffering and its sequel The Suffering: Ties That Bind followed the story of Torque, a death row prisoner at Abbot State Penitentiary on Carnate Island.

Following an earthquake, supernatural beings, resembling the manners of execution used on the island over its history in the first title, and the various elements of violence throughout the history of Baltimore in the second, attack. The objective is simple: escape.

Both titles featured a morality system, allowing for three different endings (and three different openings for players of the first game with a save file when loading up Ties That Bind). The blend of third person action and horror was well balanced and the story telling and monster design up there with the best of Silent Hill.

Both games accomplished much, but there was definitely space to develop further, and the franchise is crying out to be resurrected.
