10 Video Game Franchises Microsoft Needs To Win The Console War
6. Halo
Once the system-selling bastion of first-person clip-unloadin' entertainment, Halo's basic premise of 'see that alien? Blast its eyes off!' worked remarkably well in securing the original Xbox a surefire winner, and has been thoroughly sequelised and siphoned off since. For a while original developers Bungie were flying the flag for consistency, and even when they eventually chucked in the towel to go work on Destiny, newcomers 343 Industries delivered a fantastic change-up in the mythos by tinkering with Master Chief himself in four. After all that success it seemed a real stinker was waiting to show itself though, and the ongoing server problems of Halo: The Master Chief Collection have been quite the momentum-killer for an otherwise-stellar studio. Over to Halo 5 then, and the introduction of a few more Call of Duty-esque staples like aiming down the sights being a core staple of gameplay, alongside the potential of series fatigue slowly settling in overall. 343 need to get their act together for the MCC as it'll effortlessly let any newcomers catch right up on what they missed out on from the last two generations, and with some more solid fan-pleasing gameplay surely still under-wraps for the fifth main instalment, Microsoft should be able to get somewhere close to Halo 3's world event-feeling release day domination if done right.
