10 Video Game Franchises That Need To Die
7. Metal Gear
When Hideo Kojima broke with Konami in a blaze of controversy, he took the soul of the Metal Gear franchise with him. It is true that there is an entire team of people that worked tirelessly behind the scenes to create Kojima's vision, and they certainly deserve to be applauded for their efforts.
Kojima was always the face of the series, though. It was always his vision, and he has written, directed, produced, and designed every single one of the Metal Gear Solid games.
The upcoming Metal Gear Survive appears to be little more than a generic zombie game, and it's clear that without Kojima at the helm of the franchise, Konami is stepping into the easy money-maker of zombie survival games.
This leaves questions over how the two main Metal Gear series, Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Rising, will be treated in Kojima's absence. Metal Gear has always produced games with intricate moral questions woven into their storylines, and it's questionable - based on Survival - whether or not Konami will be able to do justice to the franchise.
Konami could feasibly continue to work on Metal Gear Rising, a series that Kojima didn't work on to the same extent as the Metal Gear Solid series, and it's likely his involvement wouldn't be quite so sorely missed. But Metal Gear Solid was always Kojima's brainchild, and it should start, and end, with him.
