7. Gran Turismo - Rehashing PS2 Car Models
The Gran Turismo series set the standard for realistic racing simulators; the graphics have been perennially awe-inspiring, and though it might not be as fun as, say, Burnout, it's a thinking man's racer for the technically-minded petrol-head. Gran Turismo 5 was in development for 5 years prior to its release in November 2010, and after numerous delays, anticipation was unquestionably high. However, gamers soon enough realised that the game's litany of cars had been divided into "Premium" and "Standard" types. Premium models looked gorgeous and even had wonderfully-rendered interiors, but Standard models were essentially just upscaled versions of the cars we'd seen in the PS2's Gran Turismo 4. After waiting so long for the game, this (combined with a twitchy online system) made it a disappointment in spite of its many successes. Though Gran Turismo 6 awaits release on the PS3 this December, Polyphony have in many ways already worn away much of the goodwill they earned on the spectacular first four games.
