3. Need for Speed - Annualised Releases
Much like the Guitar Hero series, Need for Speed incredulously continues to churn out annual titles - thanks a lot, EA! - that generally don't do a whole lot to evolve or improve the franchise. The series began with 1994's The Need for Speed, and has since released a game near enough every year, recycling titles like "Hot Pursuit" and "Most Wanted" while appearing to hope that we just won't notice. Though the Underground series of games did admittedly shake things up sufficiently (boasting a style and aesthetic clearly inspired by the Fast and the Furious movies), other efforts to innovate have mostly flopped (2011's The Run is one of the worst-reviewed entries in the series). As a result, EA ensure that the majority of the titles are indistinguishable from the prior one, and as such, it's hard to justify spending another £40 on the next title. I'm sure the upcoming Need for Speed: Rivals will look fantastic and all, but I'm hard-pressed to dig deep and spend money on it.
