10 Video Game Franchises That Were Destroyed In A Single Moment

4. Guitar Hero - Market Saturation

There have been 25 games released under the Guitar Hero banner to date, all hitting stores between 2005 and 2010, making it clear that Activision well and truly over-saturated their market with these titles. There are, in fact, only 6 "main" Guitar Hero games, which over as many years sounds reasonanable enough. The problem is with the countless spin-offs such as Guitar Hero: Van Halen, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and the one that started it all, 2007's Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s (which featured a significantly reduced number of songs), all of which diminished the brand's integrity and made it clear that they were just cashing in. By the time the sixth main game, Warriors of Rock, released in 2010, it was certain that the series was best put out to pasture. Weak sales caused Activision to effectively cancel the Guitar Hero series in February 2011.
