10 Video Game “Heroes” You Really Shouldn’t Be Rooting For

7. Mario (Super Mario Bros.)

Mario – everyone’s second favourite Italian plumber – isn’t above stomping Goombas into dust, especially when it comes to saving the princess. This is especially problematic considering the original instruction manual for Super Mario Bros. on NES suggested the inhabitants of the Mushroom Kingdom had actually been transformed into blocks.

What does this mean? It means Mario’s been savagely ploughing his way through innocent Toads in order to save his beloved. He’s been smashing them open, using them as platforms and squashing them with his backside. Worse still, there’s a theory suggesting that coins inside the blocks are actually the souls of the victims, which would mean our “hero” has been harvesting the souls of the living in the process of accomplishing his mission. Some hero.
