10 Video Game Items Everyone Hoards (But Never Uses)

5. Provisions - Darkest Dungeon

Darkest Dungeon is a truly unforgiving experience, where a tiny slipup can cause your entire team of brave adventurers to die in the cruelest of ways, like a skeleton giving them a heart attack by spilling some wine on their favorite shirt.

Oh, the horror!

Every time you embark on your journey, the game lets you stock up on provisions like food, torches, and consumables that can provide buffs or heal wounds. Given the nature of the game, it makes sense to buy as many supplies as you can. You don’t want your team to suddenly go starving or fight Eldritch horrors in pitch-black darkness.

But that is how you end up with half of your inventory being thrown out and never used.

There is rarely any balance in how Darkest Dungeon players prepare for their journey. You either buy too little and your team dies halfway through the dungeon, or you buy too much and end up throwing most of your investment away to make space for loot.

It feels pretty bad to hoard all those supplies only to never use them, but let’s be honest, it’s better to overspend than to lose your whole team because you didn’t pack them some extra lunch.
