Canned food and the zombie apocalypse go together like wine and romantic dinners. You won't find a postapocalyptic franchise that doesn't have its protagonists scavenge the wastes for preserved rations, and Project Zomboid, the zombie survival game, is no exception. The only difference is that your character in Project Zomboid will probably never eat any of it.

Canned food is one of the most common and precious commodities in Project Zomboid, and that's because it's the only food item that never goes bad.

For this reason, when you start your run, your natural instinct is to hoard every can you can get your hands on and hold on to them for when electricity gets cut off and you lose the ability to refrigerate spoilable food.

But are you actually storing them to eat them after the inevitable power shortage? No, of course not!

By the time the electricity dies, your character will likely already have a functional garden or a hunting system in place, providing them with infinite amounts of nutrients and zero need to waste unperishable food sources.

The cans are there only for the darkest hour, right? Because an undead uprising is apparently not dark enough.
