10 Video Game Missed Opportunities We're STILL Not Over

6. No Man's Sky And Its Disastrous Release

Brutal Legend
Hello Games

Let's begin with a disclaimer: No Man's Sky's developers, Hello Games, have done an absolutely amazing job of continuing to support and improve their game since its launch. It's a completely different experience now, and they should be applauded for that.

However, the missed opportunity here lies within the launch of No Man's Sky. Hype for this game was at an absolute fever-pitch upon its first release; here was a game that promised us the ability to explore the stars for all time, to blast off in a spaceship to where we pleased at any moment.

To an extent, it did that. But that was basically all it did. Vanilla No Man's Sky was a barebones experience with hardly anything to do, and when the initial hype wore off, a lot of people playing it stopped very quickly and dismissed it.

This is such a massive missed opportunity as if No Man's Sky launched in the state it is now, it could really have been one of the biggest gaming releases of all time. It was big upon launch and maintains a passionate long-playing fan-base, but imagine if the game literally released today with the Beyond update (and all previous updates) as standard.

It's a shame that for many it's too little, too late.
