10 Video Game Moments We Were All Waiting For (That Didn't Happen)

9. Stop 'N' Swop - Banjo-Tooie

If you collected all 100 Jiggies in Banjo-Kazooie, you would be rewarded with a new ending that revealed a massive secret.

In this ending, Mumbo Jumbo shows a moving photograph to the titular duo, which unveiled the location of two mysterious eggs hidden in the game. He also shows footage of an Ice Key, which could be seen behind an inaccessible wall in the Freezeezy Peak level. Mumbo Jumbo informs the bird and bear that these collectibles will appear in the sequel, Banjo-Tooie.

Based on this revelation, many assumed this follow-up would utilise a data swapping mechanic, allowing players to play Banjo-Kazooie one moment, and Banjo-Tooie the next, by switching cartridges in quick succession.

Although this was the idea, it never came to be. After Nintendo updated the N64 one year after Banjo-Kazooie's release, the Stop and Swop mechanic became impossible. After Rare's vision was massively compromised, they had to scramble to find some other way to connect the two games.

Sadly, their alternative idea wasn't great. In Banjo-Tooie, you need to collect three coloured eggs and use the Ice Key to obtain a Mega Glowbo. And what is your reward for attaining these items? You unlock the Breegull Bash ability and Kazooie turns into a mini-dragon.

So, after being teased for years, all you get for acquiring these collectibles is an extra attack and a palette swap.

Yay.
