Mojang’s juggernaut might be the most influential game of the last decade, seeing multiple spin-offs, documentaries, novels, clones and its own annual convention.
Released in 2011 and still going strong nine years later thanks to regular updates, it's now beaten Tetris to become the best-selling video game of all time at 180 million copies.
A film version was practically inevitable and after receiving numerous offers, Warner Bros obtained the rights in 2014. Initially scheduled for a May 2019 release with Shawn Levy as director, Levy dropped out of the project, replaced by Rob McElhenney in 2015.

Scheduled for release on March 4th 2022, whether it sticks to this date remains to be seen.
