10 Video Game Movies You Won't Believe Are In Development

3. Dynasty Warriors

Mortal kombat
HMV Digital China, Koei-Tecmo

Dynasty Warriors may have started life as a hack and slash spin-off of Koei-Tecmo’s Romance of the Three Kingdoms series in 1997 but it quickly found its own identity, becoming the publisher’s most successful franchise and has sold 21 million copies worldwide.

It was confirmed back in 2016 that a film adaptation was planned but unlike most films listed here, Dynasty Warriors is not a Hollywood film, produced within Hong Kong by HMV Digital China.

After initially approaching Koei-Tecmo in 2013, HMV Digital China finished filming back in November 2017 but its yet to receive an official release. Whilst a trailer released in March 2018 advised of a 2019 release date, this never materialised and no further update has been provided.

It could be that it's being withheld to coincide with a major game release, perhaps the inevitable Dynasty Warriors 10, but until we receive further clarification, it remains unclear when we'll ever see this adaptation.
