10 Video Game NPCs Hiding Dark Secrets

7. Sturges - Fallout 4

Sturges is a pretty solid guy. One of the friendlier characters you come into contact with in the world of Fallout 4, he's a handyman who travels around with Preston Garvey's party in the Museum of Freedom, with a particular affinity for duct tape and impressive side burns.

Whilst he's involved with a few quests and will send you on your merry way to spy on The Institute, he's not necessarily a big part of the game - but his background is a different story. Long has it been a point of debate as to whether Sturges is actually a synth, and it all boils down to his inventory containing a synth component if you fiddle around with the mod settings and poke around his code-based insides.

If he is, it reinforces the idea that Fallout 4 has, of the railroad wiping synth memories to protect them from the Institute. It's not so much a dark secret that you're interacting with a synth, but that these people exist all over the Fallout world with no idea that they've got a completely different life than the one they believe they lead. Sturges isn't aware that he's not actually a human, and likely never will be.
