10 Video Game NPCs Hiding Dark Secrets
5. Iosefka - Bloodborne
There are a large amount of strange creatures and NPC’s in the SoulsBorne series, from Father Gascoigne's daughter, to the once proud knight Siegmeyer of Catarina who is actually robbed of purpose if the player completes his quest in Dark Souls 1, all the way to the dark and gothic streets of Yharnam where we begin Blooborne, waking up in Iosefka’s clinic.
Within the clinic there’s a locked door through which she speaks to the player, informing them that we cannot enter but that we should go out and try and find a cure, and goes so far as to give us a vial of her own blood to aid our quest.
However later on in the game you can return, and find that her tone has shifted somewhat. That now instead of saying she has no desire to risk infecting her patients, she can offer those looking to escape the nightmare refuge within the clinic. Therefore if you meet anyone struggling you can actually send them back to Iosefka.
Yet something seems a little off, doesn’t it? The tone is so different and her voice is a little bit... strange. It turns out that this isn’t actually Iosefka at all but an imposter looking to take those you send to her and experiment on them. It’s a horrible act that can manipulate unsuspecting players, and it’s only those that find the secret back entrance to the clinic that will ever learn the truth.
