10 Video Game Plot Twists That Were OBVIOUS (If You Really Looked)
4. Humanity Is Gone - Nier: Automata
The story of Nier revolves around androids helping humanity survive after a mysterious alien invasion destroys Earth and forces all humans to escape to a secret base on the moon. The twist here is that, in reality, all of humanity is gone, and all of the characters you play don't really serve any purpose.
The plot twist is actually really obvious if you take notice of some of the stuff happening in the background. One of the most glaring details that might grab your attention early on is the eerie silence inside the moon's base. There is no staff working there, aside from robots and androids, and you never interact with any humans while on board.
You do get to meet some humans throughout the game, but if you look into it close enough, you realize they're also just androids. The members of the Resistance you encounter early on might bleed like humans, but further down the line, the game shows you that older models of androids can "bleed" as well, by spilling crimson fluids from their malfunctioning body parts.
The twist is right there in front of you the entire time. Just like that self-destruct button, for some reason.
